Be Recycle Friendly at Home!
Here are some steps to take at home that will help save our environment.
· Separate Your Recycling!
Make separate bins for your recycling materials.
üPaper: newspaper, school papers, paper bags & more.
üGlass: glass jars and bottles
üMetal: cans and containers
üPlastic: water bottles, containers and milk jugs.
· Be the King of Recycling!
Put yourself in charge of your family’s recycle. Make sure the right stuff goes in the right bins.
· Make and Decorate Labels for the Bins:
Color each label to help you and your family to know what kinds of recycle goes in what bins.
· Start a Piggy Bank!
Collect pop cans and bottles to take to a grocery store to be recycled.
You will get 10¢ for each can or bottle you return.
You will need a piggy bank to put the money in.
You can make your own by using recycled materials! Use an empty bottle and decorate it however you’d like.
· Reduce and Reuse:
Reduce by buying less and reusing old items that you would have thrown away i.e. use a lunch box instead of paper lunch bags.

Places to Recycle in Ann Arbor!
Hey Parents!
There are many places around your home where you can bring all your items to be recycled. You’ll never have to throw items around your house in the garbage again!
Recycle ReUse Center:
The ReUse Center is a place to donate old items that you no longer use, such as books, toys, sports gear, household and office items. Then the ReUse center resells these reusable items at a low cost. By donating, you can avoid throwing these items away in a landfill, which causes pollution and other bad things to happen in our environment!
2420 S. Industrial Highway, Ann Arbor, Mi 48104.
(734) 662-6288.
Hours: Mon. to Sat., 9:00-5:00, and Sun. 10:00-2:00.
Salvation Army:
This building is like the ReUse Center, but here you can also bring clothes and shoes that you don’t wear anymore. The center will resell these items and clothes for a low price. So, instead of buying brand new clothes at the mall, you can save money and materials by shopping here first!
1621 State St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104
(734) 668-8353
The Drop off Station: The Drop off Station is for items such as batteries and electronic or other items that the ReUse Center cannot take. The Station takes items that you normally don’t know where to take to recycle them properly. By taking your items here, you will help stop pollution and toxic chemical waste! Ewww! You can bring computers, printers, copiers, VCRs, paper, plastic bags, and more.
2950 East Ellsworth, Ann Arbor, MI

Ann Arbor Curbside Pick Up: The Curbside Pick Up has large trucks that come around and pick up the recycling you leave in sorted bins on the side of your street. They collect cans, water bottles, food containers, newspaper and magazines. These items are put in two bins, one for “paper” and the other for “containers.” The trucks then take these to the Recycle Plant to be recycled. In 2005, over 10,600 tons of material was recycled! That’s over 2,120 elephants!!!!
Questions? Visit [email protected] or call (734)662-6288.
City of Ann Arbor Compost Center: The Compost Center has trucks that come around like the Recycle trucks, but these trucks pick up yard waste or compost (like grass, weeds, branches, and leaves). The trucks bring the waste back to the plant to dump it into large piles. Then it is grinded up and made into mulch.
Washtenaw County Home Toxics Center: This is where you can safely dispose of poisonous and toxic home wastes. Here the toxins are carefully treated in order to protect our health and the health of the environment!
